I've been looking for a pipe vise on ebay. What are the pro's and cons of a yoke type or chain type for up to 2" pipe. Will be a bench mount either way. Never had a vise for just pipe always used a regular vise and fought it.

Thanks

Gary

I have a little chain type I use for sprinkler work, I like it fine. It is a Rigid and is very well made. I wanted one for a long time and found one on sale at Home Depot for about 25.00 and when they rang it up they had reduced it another 60%, so I went back and bought all the Rigid tools they had on sale. Got several PVC cutters for about 9.00. Sorry, they only had the one pipe vise.

Chain vises tend to be a lot handier once you get the idea of all the strange shapes they can hold. It's also really hard to slam a sensitive portion of your anatomy into the yolk of a chain vise. Best of all, you can get a lot better grip with a chain vise.

Thanks Guys,

I hadn't thought about clamping odd ball stuff with a chain vise. Excellent idea!

Thanks

Gary
