Piston Hydraulic Pump Source?

My understanding is that these are more efficient than the common gear type pumps. I don't have a lot of horsepower to play with so the improved efficiency is attractive.

Only problem is I haven't been able to find a source. Any thoughts?

What will be the end use. Piston pumps deliver a high pressure at low volume. I believe you will find that a gear pump will consume less horsepower than the piston.

Smallest production piston pumps are in the 10 cc/rev range and good for 3000 - 4000 PSI. They will also require a case drain line that goes directly to the reservoir. They will also have different control options depending on what you are trying to do.

Piston pumps, when applied properly will use less power than a gear pump but will require better filtration.

If you are looking for new pumps, Eaton-Vickers, Parker, Sauer-Danfoss, Rexroth all make piston pumps.

Used or rebuilt units: You will have to know the size and features you want but places like Attica Hydraulic exchange, ETS Hydro, Hydraulic parts Source all rebuild units. They may or may not have the exact model or size that you are looking for.

Surplus center only carries 1 piston pump on their site. It is used on older industrial and ag tractors. You'll need 40+hp to run it though.

It is not only the fact that you want a piston pump, but you have to match up the shaft size, shaft type, pump bolt holes, and if you have enough HP to turn it efficiently.

Also have to look at repair/replacement cost on the system and pump. That ~20gpm pump is over $1000 vs a gear pump at $200-300. Also open vs closed center hydraulics.
