Someone must have figured a way to mount an on-board tool box on the 422. I want a way to carry a few tools with me when I'm out an about on my 422 and I can't see a good place to mount a toolbox. Any ideas?

I got the same issue on my 1850. The roof rack that bob built and there is the complete case ontop of the engine cover that was way cool.

My problem is that the lid on the engine is really, really heavy and with the extra tire hard to work around...

You could build a Carry All bed !;)

Now that is cool! So you replaced the standard engine cover with this bed but what did you do with the oil cooler and fan? Also, is it a dumper too?

Rivco, that is very nice!

I modified a milk crate so it would slip over the pin hitch in the back. Once on, I can replace the pin holding it tight. Definitely not fancy.

The 180's don't have the oil cooler w/fan, but with a little creative modification by mounting your oil cooler & fan to the rear of the 422 the carry all bed can be easily adapted. The bed will tilt and dump. :D

Pictures of tools boxes. Be careful and do not drill into the hydraulic cooler when attaching them to the engine cover.

My solution to the same problem for my 425 was neither unique nor particularly elegant. Even though it's ugly, it does work quite well (but not as well as BobRip's, I'm guessing). The toolbox is small enough that its weight doesn't add too much to that of the engine cover. I attached pictures.

I also attached a photo of the first "modification" I made, since I didn't relish the thought of burning down my barn, hay shed or pasture.

Rivco, your Carry All bed is indeed really cool! Talk about talented - wow!

OK I have a plan for my toolbox. I'll mount it on the 'passenger' side of the 422 just behind the rear wheel. I tend to like to weld up things so I'll build a frame for the box to sit in and bolt it to the side of the tub using one of the hinge bolts on the engine cover and drilling one other hole. It will be handy, out of the way, not on the engine cover, and not impeding air flow. Basically it is opposite the muffler. I'll post some pictures once I get it pulled together. You guys have any thoughts on this plan?
