Over the past years, I've enjoyed the "simulator" type software games and now I've found a new one. Along with my collection of Microsoft FlightSim and the Microsoft TrainSim, there is a new simulator out called ShipSim 2006 that I just ordered. Hopefully it will be here in a couple of days, as I can't wait to run the tugboats around and even steer the Titianic.

Here's the website link:
Shipsim 2006

You can download a demo version, however it will only let you operate one particular boat. The graphics are awesome and the sounds are too. In the demo version, you are able to operate a diesel powered harbor patrol boat. You have complete control of both throttles and the bow thruster. I enjoy the sounds as it sounds like you have a couple of big Detroits rumbling under the deck!

I was able to buy the full version from CompUsa with 2 day shipping for just under $40. Can't wait to smash some crap up!

So lets propose this idea to one of the software makers.

1. Different tractor choices
2. Different implement choices
3. Different ground/vegitation/forest choices (of course select the size of the land and time to do it in)
4. Different weather choices
5. Different insect/animal choices (bees, grasshoppers, beetles, moles, gophers, voles, etc)

Select one of each (1-4) and go to town - you can see the impact a particular choice of implement has on the ground. To make it more advanced, select from choice 5.

The professional version would include other pieces of equipment such as excavators, loaders, dump trucks, rollers, etc...

Who would buy such a product...?

And, it would have the tax man waiting for you and your records. Also the insurance man wanting his share, and then when you turn the corner, there is your wife/girlfriend wondering when you are coming home!

Just got the full version of ShipSim and it's really cool running down stupid little sailboats with a loaded freighter! Ha, Ha! What a stress relief!

Mega Me,

Years ago I had a DOS-based simulator game called "ATC - Air Traffic Control". It's screen was a radar-like display of the area around dulles airport. The program generated symbols for multiple aircraft tagged with their call sign and your job was to type in heading & altitude commands to get them safely into and out of the area.

The game was addictive but I got rid of the computer and lost the floppy disk it was on.

Since you're into this type of simulator game, I'm wondering if you know of any current games of the air traffic control type?

I believe CNN used an old version of MS Flight Simulator to show the exact ComAir jet and exact weather conditions in Lexington, KY last week when reporting on that tragedy. They mentioned it was possible to try and take off from the wrong runway and simulate the issues encountered.

It was interesting that the software was that accurate.
