Well I picked up the steel today. I decided to go with 1 1/4" 16 AWG square tubing for the frame. This will give it the strength that it needs without too much weight.

How much have you guys paid for your aftermarket canopies?

All of the materials for mine that I bought today cost $180. And that was because I had to buy 20' of 2" tubing to get the 2 1/2' that I needed........That senario held true with every piece on this project(20' of 1" round bar for the 4" needed). I see fold up ramps for my trailer in the near future! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So I have about 3 projects worth of steel now. When I really look at the cost for the steel I will use on the canopy it will be about $60. That and a couple of weekends and (If it works /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) I think that is a pretty good deal!

I will keep you all posted as it progresses with lots of pics!

Hello Gary,
The slider/riser arrangement is mostly home-fabricated. The square tubing that attaches to the canopy, and the bracket that attaches to the ROPS are part of the Bucktop kit. The rest is scrapyard junk. Here is a shot from under the canopy.

This is a shot of the riser pins that act as stops when the canopy is raised.

With the riser lynch pins removed, the canopy lifts out of the riser guides. Here is the canopy, top down, on the ground, after removal. All that's left on the tractor are the brackets, U-bolted to the ROPS.

By the way, Gary, these pictures are from an obscure thread I posted about a year ago: Bucktop canopy with sliders and risers. Catchy title, heh? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I can't remember how much I paid for the canopy. It was purchased at my JD dealer for retail...maybe $250-$300+??? That sounds high, but I think it was around there.

Yes, a gorgeous tree! I want one!! All I have are a few funky tallow trees and a half dead hackberry tree on my lot. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I can see why you don't want to trim it back.
