Plastic Drums okay for Diesel?

Saw an ad for 55 gal. plastic drums described as clean food grade with seals.

Any thoughts on whether these could safely hold diesel fuel?

I think they should be fine. We store dieslel in one of the food grade shipping containers with a metal crate around them and were told when we bought it they are fine for diesel. Where we bought it from they had the 55 gallon drums too and they said they were the same material.

Some plastic is ok, some isn't. Call the seller and ask if their product is rated for diesel fuel.

I kept my diesel in a blue thick plastic 55 gallon barrel that originally had an industrial detergent in it. That worked just fine.

Actually that's what started this thread. I contacted the person who has them (a food packager) and they didn't know the answer. They think they are okay for biodiesel. Don't know if regular diesel would eat them up more than biodiesel.

There are lots of drums like you are talking about on Ebay UK and they all say they are OK for Diesel, Bio Diesel and all Oils. Just not petrol.

If it says HDPE on it, that stands for high density polyethylene. It is the same material that the 5 gallon plastic fuel cans are made of. I have been using two 30+ gallon herbicide drums for diesel for 3 years with no problems. I keep them in the barn where there is no sun exposure.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to get a couple ($10 apiece) I'll see what they say on the barrel and if I'm worried I'll find other uses for them.
