Plastic tarp OK?

I've put a plastic camouflage tarp over one of my tractors as a temporary shelter. Am I making things better or worse than no cover at all? I'm concerned it will get rather hot under the tarp while exposed to sun, but it will keep the rain off the tractor.

I just cover the gauges, steering wheel and seat - the sides don't come down far- just to shed the water. That way I don't get a moist environment which is not so great re rust.

If there's no room for air under the tarp, condensation will be worse then if you left it off. Tractors like Cars sit outside for months or even years before being sold.

Just make sure the tarp won't trap moisture from the ground -- that would be bad.

Thank you to all who answered my post. I'll have to re-do my temporary shelter with a smaller tarp.

the plastic tarps wont last long in the sun due to UV.. I cover implements with a canvas tarp - but more expensive BUT it has lasted 5 yrs.. I do try to make sure there is room for air flow under the tarp..

You may also want to google billboard tarps - its the heavy duty vinyl from used billboards..

Mine's been covered for several years now under a cheapy Harbor Freight tarp and no worse for the wear. Not as convenient as a fixed covering (jump on, drive out, drive back in, jump off) but I don't use mine that much here in town so it's no big deal. If I used it more I'd definitely have a fixed cover for it due to the hassle.

Lot to be said for keeping the sun and rain from beating directly down on a piece of machinery.
