My Hypertherm Max 40 keeps blowing one of the fuses. I know my air needs to be dryer than it is. Could this be why? Any opinions as to my problem will be greatly appriciated.

You may want to list the machines electrical needs as well as the specs for the circuit you are using.

If it is like my Miller plasma cutter, if you have a ground loop it will blow fuses. How are you grounding your workbench? Do you also have something else hooked up to the same circuit that uses the same ground? In my case, when I grounded my work bench with the ground cables from the plasma and TIG I started having problems. You could try just moving where you place the material you are cutting.

What fuse are you talking about? Is it the main powerline fuses on your wall box, or is it an internal fuse in the Max40?

If the main powerline fuse.....what is the nameplate voltage on your unit? We produced the max 40 in a variety of different input voltages....and each will have the maximum amperage draw listed on the nameplate as well. The Max40 is a "chopper style" power supply that uses a high frequency start torch (unless it is a Max40CS). These systems require time delay fuses, or high inrush rated circuit breakers.

It is an internal fuse in the plazma cutter. I dont remember the size of the fuse and i don't know what purpose it serves. I think it is a 3.5 amp. This all started when i loaned it to a friend and when i got there i drained alot of water out of his air system . I havent tried it at home yet my compressor is on the blink.
