I agree,
Had a co worker bump the hydraulics of a forklift, while working between the dash and mast. If I hadn稚 been there, it could have ended badly.
I occasionally will start a tractor and run the FEL while on the ground, but all precautions need to be made...or just sit in the seat.
I almost killed my wife the same way. I had the loader raised above a tall dump trailer with only feet between the traier ridge and the grapple. The wife spotted some plastic hose that is not allowed mixed with recycled brush. She crawled between the grapple and the trailer lip tp grab the plastic. Tractor was off but I bumped the the hydraulics to grab a water bottle the grapple came down a few inches nothing happened to my wife. Shook me up so bad I walked away from the tractor and took me days to return.
I sat down and went through a large number of rules to follow arounf a running anf nor running tractor. It was 100% my fault for allowing her to such a bone headed move. I am the captain of the ship. Heck it still gives me shivers weeks later.
I told her not to come within 20 feet of my tractor when I'm in it, and only near it when I'm out of the tractor along side her.
