Payload is often what is used up in a half ton truck. My F150 has 1940 lbs of payload based on the door jamb sticker. This sounds like a lot until you put 4 people and some other stuff in the truck. This woukd kick your allowable hitch weights down to a 1000 lbs or less. There are a lot of half tons with a lot less payload then mine.
Rams seem to have the lowest payload. The F150s with the aluminum body can get pretty high numbers.

But I'll still stick with Ram.

Thank you all for your input.

We decided to upgrade to a 2500. She's beautiful.

I had a friend who is a GM at a non Chrysler dealership look over the deal. He was shocked by the price they were offering. He went so far as to call his contact at Chrysler corporate. The corporate rep said "why hasn't he bought it already at that price". He was also surprised they were selling so low. Dealer had incorrectly applied an additional discount but said they'd honor it since they advertised it.

I think you made the right choice going to the 3/4 ton, you will be much happier towing, good luck..

Me too. It is nice to not have to worry if you have enough truck.
