Re: Please help! does anyone know what "rake" "tedder" this is and/or value ??

I've seen a few like this around, and I've heard folks call them David Brown or David Bradley rakes. A quick google search shows some that look kind of what like what you've got, but most of them have rubber tires, so I'm assuming this unit might preceed those. It looks like it was intended to be horse-drawn, given the size of it and seat, but sometimes folks will add stuff like that. Beyond that, I really don't have any idea.

As far as what's it worth? What does it weigh? Unless you find a collector, it's probably worth about $110/ton (at least in my area right now).

Good luck and take care.

I cannot tell you the brand as I am not familiar with that type of rake as old as it is. It obviously has JD paint on it but the steel wheels, seat, and wood tongue all indicate it was made to be a horse drawn rake albeit fairly late model due to the steering mechanism on it.

Value - really hard to say from photos. It does not look like it has set too long - is it in working order. All the parts appear to be in place. If it is in working order there is more than scrap value here if you can find a buyer. Ebay would be a good place and it gives you a broad audience. The two potential buyers for it are a collector, somebody who wants it as a yard ornament, or somebody who has 5-10 acres that wants a basic rake. Somebody like this often has a little nostalgia. I would think you get $500 for it if it is fully functional and the teeth are mostly there. I would hae been interested in it a couple of years ago but I now have an old dump rake that I am having a lot of fun with for the few acres I cut. I hate to see something that is this old and good shape go to scrap.

from what I see it is an old horse drawn rake and most that I have seen are very hard to use in the field compared to modern rakes and few people are willing to put up with them. In my opinion your best bet would be to find someone that wants to set it in the yard to look at. I see that it has little or no value for anyone wanting to rake hay, unless they are just doing it for fun.

Looks like an old David Bradley to me. I liked those old swing type rakes. They were a bear to get used to, but once you did, you could utilize that swing to your advantage. I wouldn't think they would be worth much, but I don't know that. Parts could be difficult to obtain if needed.
