Hi there,

Would anyone be able to help me identify this brush hog? Its a 48 inch. The PTO shaft is missing and the age is unknown. 01.jpg02.jpg03.jpg

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Built a lot like my Fred Cain Agricutter AC 205 (or 204), with tube steel bracing welded on top of the deck.

Has it been reliable? Is it a good quality unit? I have almost nothing to go on regarding this cutter. I wonder if it's a heavy duty unit or not. I can't find anything that's got the tube steel grid quite like it.

Also some Bush Hog older brands were built with that tube steel bracing also . As a back up plan/idea you might also get ahold of DN Equipment - DN Equipment and send them pics to see if also they could ID . They would also have the parts for that even though shouldnt be hard to find in other places either . Just more thoughts ......

Your pictures appear to show the stump jumper and blades are in decent shape. Removing those blades would be a very tough job, but you can sharpen the blades without removing them by supporting the deck in vertical position and clamping the blades in a position to sharpen with a grinder. The primary concern is the gearbox condition. The bottom seal is likely shot and replacement is another tough job. I am running mine with a bad bottom seal using corn grease (from Tractor Supply) and filling the gearbox regularly. It is keeping the gearbox lubed but eventual seal replacement is only fix. Fortunately, these older rotary mowers have enough steel in them to do some decent repair work. The newer ones are like sheet metal.

Thank you for the replies. I figured that the seal was blown-based on the old oil on top. I haven't seen it in person. The owner said they haven't used it in a long time and its missing the PTO shaft. I'm thinking that I can find a more complete unit for the cost of procuring this one and making it whole. I may have to pass on this.
