Please help me price this tractor

Here is the specs and hopefully a pic if all goes well. Sorry, I am an idiot and forgot the model and specs:


Satoh S650G, FEL, 2WD, Gas, 25HP, 4 cyl, 6fwd 2 reverse, 2105 pounds, Cat 1 3pt Hitch


Owner is ex-mechanic. Tractor does NOT currently run. Owner says it ran great a month ago but needs an accelerator pump. He does not know the hours. (I would think it had a meter but...) Color is blue and white so it is from early 80s. I have NOT seen it except in this picture but based on the info here I will take a trailer when I go. It is a couple hours away so I am either going to buy or I am not going to go. Can you also let me know if a standard car trailer would work or would I be better off with an equipment trailer. Same price at the rental yard for a car trailer or a 7800 pound equipment trailer so I really don't care. I am going tomorrow morning early so.....

I do work on my 67 Firebird so I have some knowledge of cars. I have not rebuilt a carbeurator but probably could, or I could have it done by Bill or someone locally. I am not going to bias you with his firm price.

I don't see the "specs". What model is it? Does the ex-mechanic owner have an estimate on parts cost to repair?

If it does not run and you cannot see it run I would run... away from the sale. Here's why... just about any time someone says something ran a month ago they are correct... it broke and they either cannot fix it due to can't find parts or can't afford parts. Unless you personally know this person or you are sure you can find ample parts supplies for this model tractor, run away!!! You sound like you already have your mind made up about buying it because you are leaving tomorrow morning. That sounds hasty. Sounds like you are in a rush to buy something, anything.

Sorry did not mean to say I was going...period. I meant to say that if I went, I would bring a trailer and likely buy. I will be able to visit the tractor before I buy it but as I said, I cannot "test drive it". I have been told it is a steal even if it doesn't run and that's why I was asking for help. A steal is what I am looking for and that would mean I have enough room in the purchase price to fix something (maybe even major) and still be at a fair price. I don't think I have any issues with parts as Bill Rodgers seems to be able to help with most everything on the Satoh

If the guy is a wrench-bender why is he not selling it in running condition,is my first question. He would surely get more offers and a better price on it fixed vs. broken. If it's only two hours away take a quick trip and check it out first,then make a decsion based on what you've seen.

In addition to everything else that has been written, let me add that I think you should Run AWAY!

• The tractor does not run.
• It needs a part that I have never heard of 'accelerator pump' (is that a fuel pump?)
  
• The guy is a mechanic but can't fix it. . .

• So either he is a really bad mechanic. . .
  
• Or it is broke really bad. . .
  
• Or parts are unavailable. . .
  
• Or parts are rare and too expensive. . .
  

• If it was worth a darn, he'd fix it can keep it.

Price is $1,200 firm

Even if I had to put in $500 it would be "cheap" from what I have seen.

Continue to fire away. All very good responses and unfortuately, they are all negative. Maybe I am not going.

What do you think of the price? I see they run $2,000 or more without the FEL in "good" condition on that tractor sale site. So with an FEL it should be more....

If you put $500 into it you would be doing pretty well, but it is not unreasonable to assume that you would put double or triple that into the tractor.

It is also not unreasonable to think, based on the photo, that that tractor has not been maintained very well. If that is the case, it might just be a never-ending money pit that requires constant work. Perhaps little repairs here and there, but very likely constant repairs will be the case. As someone who loves to play with old tractor I can tell you that they are lots of fun, but for work, I absolutely stay away from them.

If you have done your homework you should already know that tractor has a Mazda industrial engine.As you said I'm sure Bill can get you parts,but at what price? those were nice old tractors but it's been a long time for that one.
