Tractor
Kubota L3130DT
I'm trying to help an elderly neighbor who is getting rid of some stuff around his property. He's had this tractor for many years and doesn't know the value or the exact model for that matter. It starts with a jump and everything works. It's gas and 6v. I've been reading different ford sites but I can't figure out the serial number and nothing comes up with the model listed on the plate. I would really appreciate any help.

Model # D2JL-6007 A

Serial # 31589 E-8-HB

Looks like a Ford NAA or a 640. Probably from the middle 1950's.

The front emblem looks like the ones on a Ford NAA, but the tag says it's an industrial tractor. Does it have a 3-point hitch?

Yes I believe it does as it has a rotary cutter (bush hog like) mounted on it.

The pictured data plate is attached to the 1970's vintage replacement engine which clearly is a 172 cubic inch engine. The tractor is not an NAA as the rear axle shaft does not have a large central nut and retainer as an NAA or 8N would. It is either a 640, 840, or 641. The model and serial number are hand stamped into the horizontal surface of the clutch housing immediately behind the starter ans above the atachment mounting boss with tapped holes where a loader or other attachment would bolt.

800 series I'm thinkin'.....because of the 172 cu in engine.

Ford guys? Is the 172 a "drop in" replacement for the 134 cu in?

The 172 cu in engine tells us it's an 800 series, I'm thinking a 1958 801......But then again, I'm not so much an authority on 50's vintage Fords....

It is a replacement engine. Nothing we can see or read says it was built with a 172, in fact most evidence leads the other way. Replacing a 134 engine with a 172 is a bolt-in swap.

I guess I'll need to get all of the casting numbers to determine if parts were swapped. The hood emblem looks like the "01" series and the 172 ci motor was on the 801 and 901 according to this
Identifying Old Ford Tractors

Thanks. I'll gather more evidence.

yep..as rick said. read the stamped numbers in the bellhousing and post them.

also can post the date code ( raised casting ) numbers off the axle and hyd cover to help date it.
