Hello all,

I am new posting here but have visited this website for a couple years now. I seem to find tractorbynet is the most frequented tractor website online so i hope someone can help.

I have a 2012 Kubota Bx2660. It's my first real tractor larger than a typical riding lawn mower.

I recently purchased a used, rusty WW Grinder Super Apache 240c 3 point chipper shredder from an old man for $300. It seems to have very little use to it but the blades need sharpening and it needs to be gone through. He had it covered on a lot off his property and over the years while it sat, the tarp deteriorated and exposed over half of it to the weather through what my guess is several years. The good news is that everything moves well by hand, and these things aren't exactly rocket science.
I'm trying to remove the main cover to access the flywheel. Although there is an access port in the flywheel cover to get to the blades to remove and sharpen them, i want full access to assess the condition of the flywheel, and to remove all the main metal covers to sandblast and paint/restore.
In the following picture you will see i am pointing to a ring ( for lack of a better term ). I have removed all the bolts holding the flywheel cover on. I have removed the bearing keeper which keeps the bearing from walking on the shaft, and i have loosened the three bolts which hold the ring onto the flywheel cover. But i can't get the cover off, as it seems like the outside race of the bearing is a few thousandths to big to allow the ring to be removed completely. If i apply some heat ( i know be careful, there is a bearing there ) with heat i can begin to pry the ring to a point where i get a little bit of wiggle, but i just can't imagine that the process to remove this ring calls for heat and heavy prying. The rings metal is not very thick and i'm afraid that if i pry to hard, i'll begin to warp it.

I have a 4 page factory manual which looks like it was retained in a three ring binder due to the holes in it. The manual for this unit is only applicable to parts which are not found on what seems to be a 'base' for all ww grinder chipper/shredders. The manual frequently refers to a 'section 5, page 22 of a Wichita/Whichita Traveler Manual' for instructions on how to remove the bearings. For those that haven't figured it out yet, the WW in W.W. Grinder stands for Wichita/Wichita.
I need to know how to remove this bearing to inspect the fly wheel and sandblast/restore this chipper. Also i would love to hear from anyone who had one of these, and what to look for during disassembly.
Any and all help would be appreciated. Here is a pic of the over all chipper, and then the bearing i'm having problems with ..
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH...

I have one of those that I used with my JD 650. Chewing through alder, almost nothing would slow that machine down. Getting into the harder woods could bog down my smaller chipper. I was able to create a chip pile bigger than my tractor over the course of last year.

My advice is to tear down annually to reverse or share the hammers. And replace and sharpen the blades about every 10 hours. The blades are replaceable with Toro blades I believe.

The major disadvantage is the lack of a blower. All of the chips will eventually pile up and block up the exhaust port. So you have to either move the tractor around, or spread out the chips pretty regularly. I keep a materials shovel nearby when chipping, just for that.

The grinder part really does not like anything wet, as it will block up the screen pretty quick. If going through wet leaves or such, you should add dry wood chips about 1:1

All in all, a good little chipper.

Looking for smitesmash and his WW grinder Super Apache Found a old thread and wonder which shaft on the PTO is female? Red plastic covers my PTO to well to tell. Thank you if you see this.

Chrispyny After looking at the grinder in the back of your truck I see the same red Pto shaft covering. When you pull the tractor part of the shaft off (splitting the PTO) Which half do you have? Male or female? Thanks.

My male side is on my tractor side I think.

Luckily haven't had to dig that far into mine. I have a bucket of new shredder blades the previous owner had made by a machine shop before someone told him to turn them around! I do need to sharpen my chipper blade. I'd be curious if anyone has any info on the Toro blade replacement.

I'm not 100% certain what you are asking.

However, what I recall is (the chipper is out on the island, I can take pictures this weekend though)

Coming off the front of the chipper, permanatly attached is a U joint, followed by a square male rod. A female sleeve fits over that loosely, followed by a U-joint, and PTO coupler.
