Today's update:

Kubota - The local Kubota dealer came down in price. I think he still needs to come down some more compared to what I can find online. But, at least he's willing to deal a little bit. I am still waiting on his New Holland quote for the 4030 and 4040.

JD - I found a dealer about 75 miles away who seems pretty aggressive. I can drive down there and get a feel for the JD's since he has some tractors to show me (some on the lot and some recent customers). He is pushing the 5083E Limited and his quote is very competitive with the Kubota M7040. The local dealer has resurfaced as well. He has a 5083E Limited that he sold in May to a guy who lives close to me. He will contact the owner and see if he is willing to let me look at the tractor. Both him and the other dealer seem to think that the 5083E Limited will fit my needs the best. The local dealer should get back to me tomorrow with a quote for a 5083E Limited.

I am getting much more interested in the JDs after I do some more research. The 8F/8R transmission in the Kubota M7040 compared to the 12F/12R in the JD 5083E is a real concern for me. Plus, it seems like I can get the JD 5083E Limited for close to the same cost, in fact I know I can if I buy local. I am really curious to compare the cabs and controls of the JDs compared to the Kubotas and New Hollands.

I have been searching the 5083 threads to get a better idea. I will continue to do some more research.

The JD 5083E sure looks like a nice tractor and if it is comparably priced even better. John Deere makes really good equipment.

Though these tractors are out of my league....I am enjoying this thread.

ColoradoDan is going to buy a nice big tractor and now JD is in the mix.:licking:

This is way better than Dancing with the Stars.!!

Best wishes Dan. No doubt you will come out of this with a quality tractor, regardless.

Well, I was able to spend some time in a JD 5083E Limited today. I was impressed. I would say the cab is pretty comparable to the Kubota. I liked the layout, the size, and the comfort. I think I may like the controls a little bit better on the Kubota, but its pretty much splitting hairs to come up with one I like better. They are both very nice:thumbsup:.

However, the difference between the 8F/8R on the Kubota M7040 HDC-1 vs. the 12F/12R on the JD 5083 Limited is pretty substantial in my mind. Just more versatility for me.

The local dealer quote on the JD 5083 Limited is less than $2,000 apart from the local dealer quote on the Kubota M7040 HDC-1. I am speaking with some other dealers who appear to be a little more aggressive than the local dealers. I think I'm making progress:).

Well, the decision has been made and the ink has dried.

Today I ordered a John Deere 5083E Limited from my local dealer:thumbsup:. It is equipped with the 563 NSL loader and three rear remotes. I decided to purchase the third rear remote in order to have the ability to equip the tractor with TNT down the road. I am probably looking toward the end of the month for delivery, just depends on how quickly the dealer can get one.

The decision came down to a few main factors. I had narrowed down the choices to either the Kubota M8540 or the JD 5083E. I spent that last five or six days going back and forth but a few things sealed the deal for me. I will list them in order of importance:

1. I will never do business with my local Kubota dealer:mad:. This includes service. I was disappointed in their business ethics and their professionalism. The experience with them was terrible. On the other hand, the JD dealer was honest and professional the entire time. He turned out to be great to deal with. I almost pulled the trigger and purchased the M8540 from Barlow's but I couldn't even stand the thought of taking my tractor into the local dealer for service:(. The last few days of dealing with my local dealer were painful to say the least.

2. Price. The Kubota M8540 is obviously a more powerful tractor than the JD 5083E. With that comes a higher price. I will not discuss Barlow's price but I will say their price was great. However, the JD 5083E price turned out to be significantly less than the Kubota M8540 price. In fact, the price for the JD 5083E was a little over $7,000 less than my local Kubota dealer's price for the M8540. The price was basically the same for the M7040. Also, my local JD dealer was able to offer me 0% for 60 months which matched the Kubota offer.

3. Size of Tractor. I just felt toward the end that the M8540 was a little more tractor than I needed for my property. It has about 10 PTO hp more than the JD 5083E. I would be paying for the extra power of the Kubota but really won't end up utilizing the full potential of the tractor. I decided to scale down and pay a little less money.

4. Influence that JD has in my area. I spent some time driving around this weekend and really couldn't find many orange tractors. They were mostly green tractors. While this isn't a reason to buy one vs. the other I suspect that many other people had similar experiences with the local Kubota/New Holland dealer.

5. Implement size. I am more comfortable pulling a cat I implement with the JD 5083E compared to the Kubota M8540. I plan on buying my mostly cat II implements but I will likely buy some cheap, used cat I implements for minor jobs. I feel more comfortable pulling them with the JD compared to the Kubota. I can save some money by going this route.

I will be sure to post pics when the tractor is delivered. In the meantime I plan on not sleeping at night:D.

Thanks to everyone for all of the info. I feel that I made the right decision but only time will tell. I'm excited to say the least:thumbsup:.

While I have Kubota, I understand why you chose green and agree that it fits your needs and you have a dealer you are comfortable with. If you got anxious while shopping for your tractor, rest assured that part is over. Now comes the hard part, waiting for the new tractor to arrive. Take lots of pictures, enjoy your investment and keep us posted on your projects.

:DCyril, he must have already paid his property taxes or he would have had to wait.

BTW, my local Kubota dealer was a real turn off too. He never gave me the time of day and acted as if I was a burden to him. I went there each time I was buying new tractors and his attitude was the same both times. This was also a deciding factor for me as well. No other dealers gave me attitude and I shopped Branson, New Holland and Kioti as well.
