It has been 5 months now since I bought my little 27 acre farm in Pennsylvania. I have read through all the JD forums here nearly every day to learn and figure out what I need in a tractor. Last weekend I finally went to a dealer and ordered a 3720 w/300cx. Factory says it will be delivered next week.

I appreciate all the free advice, you folks do a great service, but after 5+ months of dreaming about a tractor, waiting the last week or two is DRIVING ME CRAZY! Now it seems all I see is people talking about how great their tractor is, how much time it saves them, all the things they have been able to do with it, and I am left yanking out brush by hand and pushing a wheel barrow way far away so the wife doesn't have to look at where I dumped it. Maybe y'all can pretend there is a diesel shortage or talk about the farmers almanac or volunteer down at the fire hall for 7 days or so?

On a more serious note, the forums are great. I walked in to the dealer and told the salesman I had never owned a farm or a tractor and needed assistance figuring out what I need and to buy one. He spent the next 2.5 hours rattling off info about tractors and farming and he did not lose me once the whole time. Without all your wisdom I wouldn't have had a clue what he meant about filling tires (would have assumed a dealer would not deliver tires without air in them), FELs & MMMs & RRMs & PTOs & 3PHs (I am still working on several other ones), and a lot more.

I wouldn't sweat not having your tractor yet. In my opinion, they're WAY over-rated anyway. There's nothing the average CUT can do that can't be accomplished just as easily by 50 strong guys. I wouldn't even bother having one except for the fact that some chicks dig 'em. Why, I have no idea.

But if I can be serious for a moment (hmm, can I?) I totally agree with you that this place is amazing. I thank my lucky stars that I stumbled onto it, and I've been an avid reader for 2 years and a member for 2 weeks. As I tell people, it's not just for tractors either. The answer to almost anything involving things that have mass and occupy space can be found here. With the help of this site I was able to get just the right tractor for my needs, and after 550 hours I wouldn't have done one single thing differently. That's pretty nice.

So hang in there, your baby will be here soon and you'll be having a blast. Remember, patience is a virtue - it just happens to be a virtue that I don't have /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The short wait will be worth it when the dealer drives in the door yard with your new tractor. I happened to be at a live fire training with 2 other towns when my new tractor went by on the way to my house. The dealer was a 1/2 hr early so about 60 guys at the training saw it. So sit back take a deep breath and be patient. In the mean time keep your computer on and keep checking the tractor net. There is quite a gang of folks here with loads of knowledge and experience to share.

Comb the net and want ads for implements. Read here how to figure out what you need and how to use it. Seems like a snow blower might be in order up there in Pa, if you have a long driveway.

Tell us in depth what you cot with that 3720. The 3720 number alone is awesome - I want to know what else?? 3rd valve? Mid PTO? Cruise upgrade? Air ride seat suspension? Details details!

Congratulations on the purchase of your new tractor. It will give you years of trouble free use, and lots of enjoyment along the way. Most of us have suffered with the "Syndromous expectationous" that you describe and it seems curable. Good luck.

It's nice to have that rosy prognosis from a medical professional.

I used to get a lot of canker sores. I asked my doctor what I could do to heal them. He told me that if I did nothing they would take two weeks to heal. If I used one of the various over-the-counter treatments they could be cleared up in just 14 days!

Okay - only if you insist: 3720 with 3rd SCV, mid PTO, cruise upgrade, iMatch, and working lights; 300CX with extra line for future attachments, 61"HD bucket w/replaceable cutting edge, tooth bar, and ballast box.

Originally ordered 300CX with a 73"HD bucket but quickly called the dealer and changed it to a 61". I have a doorway in one area of the barn that the 73" would get a little too close on and I have a trailer that the platform sides are separated by 76". A little too close for a newbie tractor operator. Plus the 3720 is not a monster and I really don't need a monster bucket that I might get carried away with. Also it means that if I cannot do the work fast enough I can always tell the wife I could with another BIGGER bucket.

Had the dealer add the LX6 on this order. Odds are I will not get to mow any fields before I plow lots of snow, but that way it ends up on the same contract/loan. Suggested a snowblower to the wife and she said it would mean I couldn't call the office and use the excuse I was snowed in. I wont argue, I got a 3720/300CX/LX6 all at once.

Current plan is box blade in April, post hole digger sometime in summer, and probably wait on the tiller until the following year.

Thinking about one of those attachments for the bucket that has a receiver hitch on it for moving trailers, or a boom, or a bucket so I can reach the top of the house with the power washer.

Think it would have been cheaper to take up stamp collecting ...
