Well, here is a thought provoking idea. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4160560.stm
Some researchers have put forward the suggestion that the plains of north america can be repopulated with wild beasts, such as elephants and lions. They do admit that gaining local support will be a challenge but the creation of new jobs will be a plus.
I also see a future for my FEL in waste removal.

I see it hard to beleve that they could get it passed. But on the other hand with my redneck side of me asks how hard is it to field dress and elephant. We had a group here try to release wild hogs here. I mean they were here in the old days but guess what TVA spent close to a million the last 2 years trying to eradicate them because they were killing the water way slopes and rooting up the parks. Not to mention damaging personal property and animals. I think folks have good ideas but are narrow minded in the after affect of such a move, Looks good on paper syndrome.

This had extensive coverage in the Canadian press - the idea bei ng that Saskatchewan, basically a very large pool table, would be a good place to do this too.

My first though was, this is appallingly stupid: introduce foreign species into North America on purpose. Environmental gennocide.

My second though (because part of the reason is to preserve the African species) 'Why don't they stop killing them in Africa?'

Fear not.

One Saskatchewan winter will level the playing field.

The coyotes will have a great spring.

I wonder just what those nuts are thinking. Yeah, they plan on fencing it. With what? Maybe able to fence for the herbivores but when it comes to cats - no way. I can just see the uproar the first time a farmer finds a cat on the body of one of his animals.

Harry,
I'd like to see what they plan on using to fence in elephants! At least I know how to test it. Run into it with a bulldozer that weighs as much as an adult elephant. If it bounces off you're good to go. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
