Kubota L3301 HST/LA525 & 1964 Ford 2000 gas
I picked this up today in hopes of using behind my Kubota 3301 or the 64 Ford 2000.

The gentleman said he thought it was a plow from behind his 8n but his memory was failing him.
It didn’t have much wear on the points or moldboard and everything seems to move like it should.

1. I’m not sure what the chains are for on the sod cutters?
2. I found a bit of blue paint so I’m guessing it may be a Ford plow.

I have never pulled or owned a plow so this is my first part of getting to trade some of the pasture/lawn I have to grow something. Not quite sure yet though what (laughing)!

Any insight, tips, tricks, and insights are welcome as I go research the archive threads for information.

What you are calling sod cutters are coulters, pronounced colters. Not sure on the chains. May have been used to prevent clay buildup on the coulters.

Here is a moldboard thread from the archive, which I used to teach myself to plow.

Examine the plow to see if it has shear bolt protection.

If you plow in rocky ground and the plow encounters a immobile, sunken rock, the tractor can be upended or even flopped over to the rear as the rear wheels continue to churn. (I have personally upended a Deere 750, which I fortunately declutched before it went further.)

Tractors used for plowing have DRAFT CONTROL, which pulls the plow out of the ground when plow encounters an immovable object, without operator intervention. DRAFT CONTROL was a standard feature on Ford 9N, 2N, 8N.

DRAFT CONTROL is an OPTION on Kubota L3301.

The L3301 is similar in size to the Ford 9N, 2N, 8N. I would plow with that.

Plowing is the slowest of implement skills to learn. Enjoy.

I have a set of those plows:Jeff is correct on the I.D.Be aware that there is "no shear pins",if you hook something solid it will stop you cold or break something.Mine are well worn and I don't use them anymore;replaced with a set that does have shear pins.
No wear parts are available that I know of. Probably came with a 8N or 9N.
They do work well when set up right.

The short chains stop the disc coulters from swinging about when the plough is lifted at the end of row, and present them roughly where they need to be when starting a new furrow. There should be some `curly rings` on the plough body for the chains to hook onto.

Thanks! I’ll look for them in daylight tomorrow.

I know of no plow that can be more tricky to learn and get it set up correctly and know of no plow that does prettier work when set up correctly. As replacement parts will be hard if possible to find you may want to have a welder run some beads on the wear parts to protect them from wearing out. Without shear bolts if you have seat belt wear it and don't run fast. Other wise you may become a good friend with the steering wheel. You can use them without a draft control and I rather use them without a draft control if it does not work well.
