I'm not sure where to post this, but I'll try here. The plow lights on my co-workers 97 1500 Chevrolet won't turn on. He has a fisher plow 7.5 foot. There is a small brown wire in the front of the truck that turns on and off with the headlight switch (I put a 12V tester on it) but I cannot see where to attach it to. It must have gotten disconnected over the summer and now we're getting our first real storm up here in the Northeast. Any help on where to plug in this brown wire is appriciated. It has two connecters on it about 2 inches apart.

Thanks again,

Collin

That brown fire that turns on and of wih the headlight switch is obviously the feed wire to the plow lights. I woul dstart at the actual plow lights and find the wire that connects to them. Follow it back to a connector that may have gotten tucked or taped into the plow frame. If you can't find the wire then perhaps it got ripped off and you will need to run a new one from the plow lights that will plug into those connectors. If you only have one wire from teh truck then the plow lights are using the truck frame / plow frame for it's ground.

If its a factory type wiring harness you should be able to find where to connect it to. If someone wired the plow lights by hand and separate switches then you need to use your test light and maybe a jumper wire and take the outer shield off to get to the plow wiring to test it. Knowing who the plow mfg. is might help since some mfg's. plow harnesses use different color codes.

If it is a factory plow harness made for that truck you can usually go online to the plow mfg. and download the schematics. I did that for a couple guys that adapted plows from previous trucks to newer ones. I also did my own a few years ago. Bought a used plow then went to mfg and bought factory underhood harness to adapt the plow to truck. At Western, you can download everything you need to install and wire a their plows.

If you decide to just touch it to the place where you think it goes, and want to be a little safer, grab a piece of similar wire and add a fuse inline on it, so that if you hook it straight to the wrong thing, it might blow the inline fuse instead of something else.
