I use a snowblower and was thinking about putting a plow on one of my "fleet". The cost to put a plow on the Gator is way more than I want to spend so I am looking at other options. I also have a Honda Rancher and an X534 that I could do for about the same amount of money. Leaning towards the Honda due to the 4x4, any thoughts pro or con?

My only thoughts would be that the X534 would be gear a little bit better for the task. Also, you can put chains and wheel weights on it for a pretty good machine. It would also be worth looking into seeing if you can get a hydraulic angle on the JD. That alone would secure my vote because getting on and off any machine to adjust the blade is a PITA. The downside would be its hard on a lawnmower if your trying to act like a dozer. The Honda would be good if you get light snow frequently because it would get around alot quicker. The downside would be the lack of traction when trying to push a larger pile.

I have seen people use both with good success. My only other suggestion would be to try the two different styles out and see which one is more comfortable.

I have a plow on a 4x4 Honda, in addition to my tractor FEL/Blower/BoxBlade setups. I like the plow/Honda, and wouldn't consider having instead a plow on the front of my garden tractor. the speed/4x4 is ideal for smaller snow amounts and quickly moving snow in one direction on my drive/sidewalks. if you needed to move the angle a lot, maybe it would be a pain, but I have a method where the blade angle doesn't need to change often. moving faster, I can throw lots of snow with it.

You don't mention the option for a blade on the 2520 - cost?? or ?? At one time, had a Honda 6522 4x4 with 60" power angle blade and it worked quite well - depending on depth of snow and how wet. Maybe a bit lighter than 2520 but certainly similar.

I leave the backhoe on the 2520 year round and don't really want to mess with that.

I meant a front blade.

I understand but I don't want to plow with the backhoe on, thought that might make the tractor a little light on the front. If not maybe that would be an option.

For plowing, there is almost nothing like an ATV. I plow with a 60 inch blade on my Cam Am 650, and it zooms along very quickly. So, especially if you have long drive ways you can plow a lot faster than you can with any small tractor.

As well, the winter traction is amazing on those things. *Honda tires are not as good as stock Can Am tires, but you will still find that traction is even better on the ATV and it is on a tractor without chains.

As well, you can get a plow blade that has a lever that comes up to the driver that allows you to change the angle from the seat without getting off the ATV.

Finally, because the ATV is so light, I can use the plow to clear giant skating rinkson the lake in front of my college. With my 3000 pound BX25 tractor, that would be a bit on the risky side!

Just bought an Eagle plow set up for the Gator for less money than I could set up the Rancher. The fact I have a winch on the Gator made a difference and although it isn't hydraulic angle it is more than 2K cheaper than JD set up and I can live with that. :dance1:
