I have big paddock that has had horses on it for 35 years. The soil is well compacted to the point it won't drain. I have cut a swale in it to channel water away from the gates and troughs. I also regraded it to a crown in the middle and drains toward the driveway ditch. But when it rains the water mostly just lays on the surface.
If I were to plow it as deep as I can would that break it up and let the water saturate in. Or will the horses be in a foot of mud instead of 6".
I'm pretty satisfied with the grading but short of ditching in drain tile to the swale or ditch I don't know what else to do.
Will this help or just make a mess.
