I've never used a plow on gravel, always FEL bucket, but ... lacking a very reliable bucket level indicator gravel still ended up in the lawn.
Edge tamers pretty much took the fuss out of leveling the bucket precisely to leave an inch or two of hard-pack. The topper is how much time one saves when 'close enough' there is easier to arrive at. I put three 3" ETs on my NH's 62" bucket and those post-thaw snows will never again be the nightmare they once were. We had a thread about these recently, too.
