Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Plowing Snow

Here in the Northeast we seem to be way ahead of our typical snowfall. Personally, I'm getting tired of it all..... hard to keep the skid road open for wood harvesting. Plus you burn lots of "extra" diesel moving the snow!

Well, anyway, we have had several feet so far and it's snowing today with another 8-12" expected overnight.

I'm in warming my feet and thought I'd post a few pretty pictures.

I am in Southern Maine and I know the feeling. It seems like I have plowed alot more this year then years past. How do you like that set up on your tractor? I have a plow on my truck, but I was think about something like you have.

I'm in Ohio, warming my feet by the fire, so to speak. We have mid 20's, lots of wind, some snow. It's heading your way, so bring in some more wood.

My rig is something like that, but I've mounted an old back blade to a modified carry-all that fits on my FEL arms. It's nice to be able to push the snow into taller piles when needed.

I have no hydraulic left/right -- yet. I have the plumbing since I run a grapple with my bucket, but I don't know that I see enough snow to justify the messing around to plumb it all up. Besides, I use the carry-all without the blade on it to pick up the bucket to carry wood to the house and modifying it for hydraulic left/right might remove that flexibility. I use a back blade primarily for snow, calling out the front blade only when things get kind of like Maine.

Sitting here, in central NH near the ME border, waiting for the snow to stop AGAIN. This is my 3rd winter with the tractor. Have used it more this year than the last 2 combined. I hope today's snow is drier than yesterday's. Rear blower must have plugged up at least 10 to 15 times with yesterday's stuff.

I love this setup. I have plenty of room to pile snow so I prefer it to a rear blower. The blade is a 96" HLA quick attach - plumbed in for angle from my rear remote. This particular plow setup uses a single double-acting cylinder with cross-over relief.

I used to plow with a pickup. With the loader mount you can pile real high and reach much farther. So no getting stuck as you push over embankments, etc.

Diesel-ME:

Nice rig ! I think things will settle down for the rest of the week weatherwise after this system blows through. Northern and northeastern NE will see a lot more snow as this system redevelops/strengthens when it hits the ocean. It will get colder Wednesday through Friday and warm up (40's) for the weekened. My area in western MA has had 4.5" of light fluffy snow so far with this system and 40" of snow so far this season most of it since mid-December. Jay

Oh come on now. Yes I have pilling snow with my FEL for me and my neighbors all day. Yes it was cold and it started snowing again before I got done, so I was soaked when I got in. Yes I will have to go back out tomorrow and do it all again But it does have it advantages....

Nice unit. I am hoping to build one that will be reversable on the fly for backwards and forwards use. I suspect though i will get plenty of good use from the blower evern with one of those. kicking the snow to the creek isnt a safe thing wo a blower here...
