I finally got to see what the 790 would do power wise. I plowed my garden and sweet corn patch, a little over 1 1/2 acres with a Ferguson 3x14 plow. I ran in low 4th with the front wheel assist engaged. I was amazed at how well it did. It bogged down a couple times but, other than the tractor being a little light it did well. I left the FEL on with the bucket and my rear tires are loaded but, it is a spun alot. My R-4's are probably not the best for ag work though either. If anyone is trying to decide on what tractor to get I am true believer now that for the most bang for your buck you can't go wrong with this little horse.

Wow, 3-14! That's impressive. I always thought the 790 might handle two bottoms, but never imagined three. What kind of soil do you have?

Got any pics?

I'm curious to your soil type too. Having a geared tractor certainly doesn't hurt the situation any. I have no problems pulling a 2 bottom 14 inch plow with my JD3520 geared tractor in hard clay using R4s.

The soil is pretty rich and it was a little on the damp side. Late this summer I mowed the corn stocks but, through the fall the weeds and volunteer sweet corn came through. Also, a little over a mile from our house is an operation that mixes huge compost piles. A couple times per year they allow the public to buy truck loads of the this compost. Well my brother-in-law that we purchased the farm from applied this to the garden and sweet corn patch over the last couple years. The soil that was turned up looks very black even after a couple days in the sun and wind. Depth wise I would say 7-8" judging by the furrow. I didn't let the plow in all the way otherwise I just sat there and spun. I figured if my grandpa pulled it off with his 30 Ferguson 50 years ago the 790 with four wheel drive could do it.
