Kioti DK50SE w/ loader and Woods 90x backhoe, Allis Chalmers C with front snowplow
I've got a dk50 SE hydro, in considering a couple plows, would you go with a 2-14 Dearborn 10-156 or a 3-14 Massey Ferguson 43? Any idea on parts availability between the 2 and which parts would be more reasonably priced? I'm not going to do a ton of plowing just some garden areas or food plots

My Kubota Owners Manual - Bottom plows - max size - - 14 in x 3, 16 in x 2, 18 in x 1. My Kubota M6040 is 64 hp, the Kioti DK50SE is 49 hp. I would say the 14" x 3 Massey plow is too big. The 14" x 2 Dearborn would be about as big as I would try. I have no idea on the price of parts.

I've heard others state 15hp a bottom as a rule of thumb but that's going to differ with size of plows and soil conditions. Basically I was thinking the 3 bottom maybe could remove one if needed, if not leave it and cover more ground.

I read an old publication that stated 1 drawbar horsepower per inch of plow. We used to pull 3-16" plows with our D-17 Allis Chalmers. That tractor was a 60 HP gas tractor putting around 53 HP to the PTO. I figure drawbar HP was in the 46-48 range. In red clay it was a load but we ran those tractors in 2nd high on the power diverter which was 5th gear. I would personally look at the 2-14 Dearborn.

The other concern I have is there are rocks in this area, some areas are far worse than others but I just wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to buy something new that there's parts out there for. I don't predict wearing out the wear items with the little bit I'll use it but the possibility of breaking something is high

I would consider a Disc Plow, rather than a Moldboard Plow. For your size tractor only Monroe Tufline makes new Disc Plows. There should be plenty of old Dearborn Disc Plows in your area.
TDP2 Series 2 & 3 Blade Disc Plows | Tufline
Disc Plow for food plots - Google Search

Also consider a Disc Harrow with pans in 20" diameter of 22" diameter. A Disc Harrows ability to cut is a factor of weight bearing on each disc. It will take pan diameter of 20" or 22" in order to cut virgin food plot soil. An advantage of a Disc Harrow is that you can make a second pass with the pans adjusted less aggressively than during the first pass, leaving a smoother bed relative to a moldboard plow.

If you need trip beam protection, the Massey plow has it. With that said, the 3 bottom may be a little much for that tractor. Ken Sweet

The disc plow is a good suggestion, I had forgotten about those, though I have never seen one used for sale or otherwise. I'll look into those would it make sense to stick with 2 disc or would my tractor be able to handle 3?

With the Massey I figured I could remove a bottom if needed, just concerned on the condition it looks very decent but it's in the weeds can't really see the business end of it, the guy says it's useable but it's 2 hour plus drive away, don't want to get there to look at a hunk of scrap metal. Do you know if those parts are still available for the 43 plow?

A thought - I'd be kind of upset also - two hour drive to view a pile of scrap metal. Call the guy - have him send you some pics of the plow before you make the trip. Could save a spoiled day or reveal a true winner.
