Anything added will help. This is either a design flaw, or abuse. He said it wasn't abuse, so we have to take his word for it. I'm not an engineer, mis spell it most of the time! All I can help with is what I've done in the past.;)

Is there any adjustment to the spreader axles? The failure looks like it was aggravated by tongue weight or braking under load. If you could move the axles forward, you could take some weight off the tongue. Fish plating will get you back in business, but it shouldn't have failed in the first place. Make sure your dealer sees the picture you posted. I'd be steamed. Those spreaders aren't cheap.

Added weight merely neutralizes the injector system that is attached to the rear of the applicator, and creates a upward force on the tongue.

Thanks for all the comments.

Reason the box tube broke......... there are torsion bars under the applicator, and are hooked to brackets just behind the break. Those bars create tremendous downward force, pulling on the box tube. Unit broke the box tube for previous owner, but previous owner fixed the break by merely welding the break.....no fishplate. That break was not noticeable due to a good job of painting and grinding, until it broke the second time, which exposed the weld inside the box tube.

We fixed it by fishplating on the sides, since brackets were in the way top and bottom.

We will see how it handles.........but at least now there is a lot of metal ahead of the torsion bars.

Again, thanks.
