Does anyone back up with the three point drum
plugger? for like close to things or will it damage the unit?

If ...close... is important to you ...go for it...
Maybe you won't get as perfect plugs as in open yard, but there are bound to be compromises needed..

Could you raise the implement, back into where you want to start, lower the implement and plug away?

No clue on how the plugger is made and if stresses backing under load would damage something.

I seen a 3pt plugger in action at a local college of mine in action on a JD 4320 doing a baseball field. In some parts of the field, they were backing up to the fence with it in the ground then going forwards. Obviously not turning -- doing it straight.
