Plumbing a stump grinder

I found a Woods 50 stump grinder on CL for $3500. It's brand new, as soon as he got it somebody loaned him a Vermeer. So he plumbed it to his older Kubota and used it one time. ???

He has all 4 cylinder hoses run to an old Kubota joy stick that will control up down and swing. The 4 cylinder hoses are run to the valve and then there is a supply and return and a overflow (? bypass ?).

I have one set of remotes on my Workmaster. Can I make this work on my tractor. What do I do with the 3rd line. He said I may not need to hook it up at all. Are the kubota QC standard to where they will fit mine or will they have to be changed.

Keep in mind I know or understand very little about hydraulic systems. Also I told my wife there would be very little additional cost to hooking it up. And I know the pics aren't very good. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I'll venture in here. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know if the ends on the hoses will fit your Workmaster. I would say try them and find out. The correct ends shouldn't be that expensive. Unless you have something like a power beyond on your tractor, when you hook up to your tractor outlets you'll have to hold the lever on in one direction or another to make the joy stick work. You shouldn't have to hook up the third line but if you do it just needs to drain back into the hydraulic reservoir.

Could I plumb to the transmission since that's my reservoir. Or tee in to the pump or loader control? Then use a bungee to hold the rear remote lever open.

Ok you need to clarify a bit more here. To me a rear remote and loader control are two different remotes. I'm not familiar with a Workmaster.

Yes yon can plumb a drain to the transmission when that is your reservoir. If you "T" into the lines before the remotes for the loader you wouldn't have to bungee the lever. That's only if you use one of the loader remotes to operate the stump grinder.

Does a Workmaster have two sets of remotes for the loader? If it does it might be simpler in your case to just eliminate the Kubota joystick and plumb straight to your loader remotes.

No I have I set of remotes. That's the problem. I guess the kubota valve makes up for that. Is that like a diverter or splitter.

If your tractor is an open center hyd system. and if you need the 3pt to raise and set the stump grinder, do the following.

Remove your 3pt input hose and add a male QD.

Make a short hose with a female QD on it, and connect the other end into the 3pt input.

With no stump grinder installed, connect the male and female QD's together.

When using the stump grinder, separate the QD's and plug in your stump grinder input hose to the male QD.

Connect the stump grinder PB out hose to the 3pt input hose female QD.

Connect the stump grinder tank line to tank or any return line.

If no 3pt

Other option is to remove the PB adapter from the stump grinder valve and add a plug.

Now, just run the tank line to a return line or the tank/reservoir.
