My Tafe 5040 is similar to many Massey models. It has three "tapping points" to use the 3pt lift hydraulics for other uses. For years I connected my loader to the auxiliary connections with quick connects. But I wanted to free up the aux connections for other things so I connected the loader into the main hydraulics through one of the "tapping points" and plumed a return line to the transmission. The loader worked great when the position lever was moved to the constant pumping position, as it was supposed to. But today I hooked up the box scraper and it would not lift unless I also pulled the loader lever. When the box scraper got to the top the loader began to rise? This was using the position lever as I normally would to raise the scraper. When I released the loader valve lever (Joystick) the box scraper dropped like a rock!! What did I do wrong?

Nothing except using the 3pt pump, you can never use a loader and the 3pt at the same time, you must have a special valve so you can select 3pt or ext use and the loader must connect to this valve. FG_3906348_2.jpg

Thank you. Is that the valve for the Tafe 5040? It looks like it might be. Do you know it's P# and where it is available?

If you plumbed the return line from the loader valve to the transmission then you aren't putting pressure to the 3 point valve. You would typically put a loader valve between the pump and the 3 point valve. The loader valve would have to be a "power beyond" type of valve which has a pressurized outlet port which then feeds the inlet of the 3 point valve.

My point is simple, it has a aux pump for a very good reason, it's the only good way to run external hydraulic on a classic MF or MF licence, why did you do the change?

And the reason for this mess is Harry Ferguson, to control the pump vs having constant pumping pump and a valve was a good idea when Mr Ferguson designed the system but it should have died whit it's designer.

I did the change because I got a hydraulic limb saw that attaches to the loader bucket and I wanted them on separate pumps so I could use both at the same time and because running my loader off the auxiliary port requires I hold the port lever open with a bungee, which never seemed like a great idea. The limb saw does not have a valve so I was going to run it with the auxiliary valve and run the loader with its own valve (4-way joystick).

The owners manual gave me the impression that moving the lift position lever to the constant pumping position would divert pressure to the loader while freezing the 3pt lift in whatever position it was in. I could not find a hydraulic schematic for the tractor, so I do not know where I would plumb to between the pump and 3pt. The owners manual shows three pressure points where removing a plug allows the hose to be threaded.

My loader is an open center valve. I wonder if changing it to a closed center valve would allow the lift to work when the loader is not being moved?

Constant pumping will raise your 3pt to the top as soon as you start moving your loader.

That is what happens. And when I stop moving the loader it drops like a rock.
