We found the lights used on craigslist. They were taken down from a factory 50 miles away and included the bulbs and everything. They are a 400 watt Metal Halide. I put 2 of them in my 32x30 shop and 12 in this 64x40. Lots of light output-for sure!! I wired them 240volt and will be putting in a contactor system to turn banks of 2 or 3 on at a time wherever light is needed in the big building.

Bottom of the lights are 16ft above floor and spaces 10ft apart.

They really light it up. Congrats on the find.

Yes I was happy to find these at such a great price. Out of the 14 we only had one bulb that was bad. Went to Menards and bought 2 new metal halide bulbs and now we have all of them working plus have a spare!!!

I'm curious, did you consider the high bay flourscent lights as well when you decided which lights to use? I see that you got those off C-List so I assume it was for a good price. I've been looking into the Metal halide and Flourscent and am leaning more toward Flourscent.

No we had regular flourecent lights in one of our buildings and they didnt work well in the cold weather...These lights were only 25.00 each (used on CList) and put out ALOT of light!!!. I like the way we wired them on 5 circuits (10 spaces in brkr box at 220V) The new bulbs that I had to buy at Menards were 28.00. Fortunately we only had to replace one bulb out of the 14 lights so far. 12 lights in this building at 400watts each works wonderful!!!

Awesome lights KB, I am impressed! Most folks would not bother running the 220 lines. But it looks fantasitc!

Thanks!! I like to make a project look like it should... We didn't have to run conduit. Around this area the normal would be to run romex or worse-an extension cord :thumbdown: up through the rafters - but I told dad (the skinny guy in brown coveralls) we needed to do it right the first time.

I am sure there are "safety police" on here that would say I was not safe up there on the top of scaffolding. I guess I should have put a disclaimer not to do that kind of stuff. For being over 300lbs I am not afraid to climb up on most anything. I have done much worse than shown in these pics. Dad didn't like it when I climbed up on the rafters and started walking around on them...since they are spaced 8ft apart so he may be right...;)
