Hey all, i ran across this website and I thought it was really interesting. I am in the process of finishing my shop, i am ready to run all my electric, i know where my outlets are going but my lights is a different story, i have 6 eight foot lights there were given to me for free, and i want to use them on the ceiling. my shop is 24 x 36. I do mostly body work on cars so i need lots of light for painting but not to much light. also i just planned on using 4x8 sheets of foam insulation that is 2in thick and over top of that 7/16" plywood. I really don't want to put studs in, that would put me over my budget. I was looking for pictures of other shops to get a good idea. Does anyone have any. Thanks

Welcome to TBN!!

I can't say for sure about a shop, but I've worked on homes with sheets of foam for insulation, and I've been very impressed at how effective it is. Somewhere on my list of things I'd like to do one day is add foam insulation to the ceiling in my shop.

My shop is 24x30 and I have 4 double, eight foot flourecent lights in it. They are all the light I could ever need. I have had issues with the ballast and ended up replacing them all with new ones from the commercial electric supply house. Sorry, I don't remember the brand name. Home Depot and Lowes both sell junk, so if you need to replace the ones that you have, don't go there. LOL

If you post pictures, you'd get allot better response and probably some really good ideas. When people see what you have and how it's built, you'll find that others have done the same thing.

Welcome to TBN! I think Eddie is right, post a few pics and you will get more feedback. Also it is real nice when you fill in your profie to show what part of the country you are from. It is jsut kind oa a nice thing for those of us reading to see where people are from. Some people or more concerned about privacy than others so if you are you might jsut say "Upper Michigan" or something like that. Again welcome to TBN!

Like Eddie I also have four 8 foot double lights. My shop is 36x30 and it's plenty of light. After I added the storage loft I came back and put two 4 foot doubles under that. I would think the four 8 foot doubles would be plenty everyday use. You could always use a halogen portable when painting as it's portable and you could shed as much or as little extra light on the panel you were working on as you needed to.

I took this right after I finished the loft, but before I trimmed it out. This is the only pic I have that shows the lights. I hung two of the 8 footers on each double truss. Later on I had to add the four footers under the loft as it was just too dark at the workbench.

Thanks, i will try and get some pics this weekend and get them on here. I will warn you the pole barn has been up for about 20 years or so, it was just an old storage building. We bought the place and I decided to finish it instead of builiding a new one. It not the greatest looking thing right now. But it's all coming together.
