Anyone dealt with Timberline for a building? I'm looking and found these folks. I believe they're out of Ohio. Any input is appreciated. BobG in VA

Are you talking about a pole barn style or a post and beam style building. They are different. Post and beam is another name (usually) for timberframe, although some builders pervert the nomenclature a bit.

I was talking with some SIP manufacturer's over the last several days. Seems you can get R25 panels for $4.75 or so/sq ft. Not a bad deal. Check out extremepanel.com. Another good option is EPSbuildings, who may be cheaper still and can have the panels pre-faced with steel siding on the outside and OSB on the inside. Enercept is another provider, but they may not be as price competitive - their claim to fame is customized panels for residential construction.

I just built a 30x40x10 pole building last month. I researched the **** out of these pole building companies just as you are now. I looked at Pioneer Pole building, Morton, Lester, GaryBrown, Anthem steel, etc....
I actually found the very best deal at my local lumber company ( Berlin Lumber in Pa.) They use the exact meatl and building plans as these specialized companies and I saved about $2,500 on the material. They are also alot cheaper if you are planning on adding options like overhangs and wainscoting. I then hired a local crew to erect the building. All together I saved about $3,300.
84 Lumber was very competitive also. Maybe you can check your local lumber yard also.

That would be Gary Brown. That's the website I found. Thanks for the reply. BobG in VA

I just built a 24x40 Gambrel pole barn. It was a Timberline system sold by Durabilt Polebarns in the Canton, OH area. They shipped the lumber and a local crew put it up. I am very pleased with it. It is my new workshop. I had a concrete floor poured after it was up and I framed 24oc with R21 insulation. I had the electric utility run a seperate service and I installed a 100amp service. I heat it with a corn/pellet stove. I am still in the process of completing the interior and moving all my equipment in. I did take pics so I guess I could post a pic or the whole process from leveling the ground to finishing the interior, but there's already a lot of those posted. Bottomline is the design and lumber is good although you pay a little more. It depends on the experience of the crew. The guy doing mine had put up 65 of the Gambrels and knew all of the tricks.

How is your corn/pellet heater working out for you? I have not heard of anyone's experience heating a barn with corn. Several friends have just installed corn heaters in their houses and I am waiting to hear the long term results.

The corn/pellet stove seems to warm it up ok but I've only used it a couple of times since it hasn't been cold since I got it installed. I've used less than 40 pounds of corn. It is a small stove and it takes a while to heat up the 24x40 but when it's running I don't need a coat or jacket on. It's only been in the 20's a couple of times so when it really gets cold I'll find out. I do have 6" insulation so that helps.

The friends that heat their house with corn use approximately a bushel every day with the setting on its lowest setting. It is now colder and I have not talked to them since the temperature dropped.
Thanks for getting back to me.
