Has anyone used a John Deere polesaw? Thanks for any input.

I haven't used the J.D. polesaw, but I did take a 14" Remington electric chain saw that was on sale at Sears, drill a couple holes in the base, bolted it to a piece of plywood, then bolted my old telescoping pool vacuuming pole to it so it was somewhat balanced, zip tied the "throttle" open, taped an extension cord down the pole, plugged it into a "multi-outlet strip" that had an on-off switch on it so I could turn it on and off easily, and bingo! Unsafe as ****, but works great

What a deal!!
The snowmobile club I belong to owns two pole saws. One is a Husqvarna 326 which is very similar to the JD from the pictures I have seen. This one is nice because it is light, and when the chain gets thrown off the bar it it is very easy to put it back on. We have another (I believe it's a Power Pruner) which slides so it has a longer reach. This one is nice because it slides down to 8' or so feet but has quite a bit of reach. On the Echo, how often does the chain come off? Is this a frequent problem, or just difficult when it happens? I am considering purchasing one of these.

I have a JD polesaw and like it a lot. I did pinch the bar which threw the chain off a couple of times but it was my fault. Have cut 8" softwood with it. Works great for reaching under small evergreens as well as reaching up. I don't think it will take the beating a better saw would but I don't feel the need to abuse it anyway. I recomment running it nearly out of bar oil at the end of use as mine leaks oil into the bar cover in storage.

the echo we use is not bad as far as poping the chain off.
at first I used to get the saw stuck in the limb and snatch it out,wich would knock the chain off. but with practice even I got better at it

I think it has a lot to do with what firemanpat2910 stated. If it gets bound and you have to work it out there it goes. I changed the bar on it last year because it was a bit bent and it has gone better. We have about 100 miles of trails and only get to cover a small amount of that each year so when we are working it's a rush to cover as much trail as possible.
One other item to note would be that we have a bunch of different people using the equipment. We have three Husqavarna Saws. Two with chain adjustment on the chain cover and one that is built into the saw. Just about every year I have to change one of the chain covers because someone didn't pay attention when putting the cover on with the adjuster build in. We will not buy another setup like this.
So if you are the main user, and need a polesaw with a lot of reach, and not in a high production enviroment I wouldn't shy away from buying this saw. It has been a good dependable saw for us.

I have a Stihl HT 75.
Unfortunately it is one of the model years that Stihl decided to put an nn-adjustable carb on it to meet EPA **** ceritification. In other words you can't adjust anythgin but the idle speed so it has to be stripped and cleaned whenever it starts to run the least bit out of tune.
