This is a picture of a YM1300D using a pond scoop. I promised a member I would post it for him.

wow that scoop looks big in your picture, but looks like your tractor handles it just fine, I'm still thinking about buying one (scoop), have you ever used it to move dirt, if so how well did it do. Thanks Robert

Hi Robert, I have a 30" scoop on my 2210 and it works great. I have moved a little dirt with it and over 20 tons of gravel, even some large #4 gravel, with no problem. I've got about 160 pounds of weights on the front to help. If you don't have a FEL, this is a good implement to have IMHO. Chuck

I have a pond scoop similar to the one in the pic, one of the biggest uses I found was to transport firewood after I cut a tree. I also use it to move wood from the pile to my front door. I can set the scoop on the porch and unload it. Makes that job much easier.

Can you dig a trench with one of those? How deep?

The kitchen sink here has always drained straight to the orchard. It's time to make a new drainfield for it.

In the attached photo I dug a trench maybe 12" deep and (not shown) 30 ft long, searching for the sink line outfall. I was searching where it was 50 years ago and I, as a little kid visiting the grandparents, was occasionally sent out to crank the wire that went up the end of the pipe to get it flowing again.

I never found it there. (Later discovered it comes out a different side of the house now).

I need to dig a new trench 24" deep for the sink's new leach line. I'm thinking of starting like in this photo, ripping with the BB's teeth and digging with the loader from the side to get down the first foot, then digging the second foot by pulling a pond scoop down the length of the trench. Poor man's backhoe!

Since the tires won't be down the whole 12" I think the bottom of the scoop needs to be 18" or more below the tires. Can you set a scoop that deep?

Any comments welcome! Will this work, or is there a better (inexpensive) alternative?

I have a 30" scoop in my satoh beaver III (16 enghp and about 11pto). reverse the scoop and take some time and you can dig a really deap trench or hole. By letting the scoop dig in a little while backing up and then hitting the lift a little you can get really good traction and the little tractor will supprise you as to just how it can dig with one of these things.

A couple of years ago my sister needed to dig a trench for a sewer line in a spot where no backhoe was going to fit. We dug that whole trench (45ft long sloping from 3 to over 5ft deep) using an old walk behind rototiller to loosen the dirt then just shoveling out the loose stuff.
