Well, it had to be done. Or, someone was going to go down through. The porch floor joists had rotted from the simple fact that it is screened in. The weather got to it over the years. Rain and snow.

And not to mention how ugly and dirty it was to begin with. AmI the only person in the world that walk by a mess everyday and not think anything of it.?? You know, it just becomes "part of the woodwork."

Out with the old....It begins with a small hole....

Then, a bigger hole.....

Clean it up and pile it up....

Good start... What are you putting in for a floor?

And no you're not the only one

Now the build...Started with a ledger board on the house side. I used pressure treated 2x8's for the ledger and added "hangers" to place the floor joists into. At the opposite end of the joists I "toe nailed" the joists into the sill that sits on the foundation.

Then the the pressure treated decking went down....

It looked quite nice but the interior walls needed an face-lift....so I built interior walls with a nice pressure treated sill and backboard.....

I used cedar paneling to finish off the walls. It's an all cedar wood panel. I still have the end walls to build and finish off...which will get done this weekend.

I like it. And when I look back on what it was before.....I like it a lot.!!

You've been busy. Looks good and the sill at top of the porch wall looks wide enough for a coffee mug - that's very important. :D

Walley...I screwed up and posted before I was done posting.??@#$%$#@!!

Anyways, it's a screened in porch so I went with pressure treated wood except for the interior wall and the cedar paneling.

I enjoyed the work. I'm not a pro. Since I have moved to the country I have tried hard to pride myself in being a do-it-yourselfer. Now if I could only buck up and tackle the electrical work that needs to be done.:D

That looks very good and should last a long long time. Is that the hydro meter in there?

Electric meter.

There was some discussion before I bought the place about the location of the meter. It's "inside" and apparently the power company prefers for them to be outside.

Hasn't been a problem and now I don't have to be concerned about the meter reader going through the old porch floor.

I'm serious....that old floor was about to give way.!!

You're not the only one that walks by something that needs to be done and doesn't see it. My kids and I do it all the time.

Since I retired I agreed to help the wife with the housework, my job is the vacuum, SWMBO is always saying "look at those carpets, don't you think they need vacuuming?" They look fine to me until I run the vacuu m and then I see how much dog and cat hair has accumulated.
