The gas price post got me thinking. How about I put a 100 gallon tank in the back of the truck, go fill er up and then leave it on my property and fill my vehicles. I can find places that are 20 cents cheaper a gallon if I drive out of my way. Anyone do anything like this? Is it possible to get an economical tank to hold a decent amount of fuel? Just a thought, might be a silly one though.

With my luck, the week after I \'d fill the tank, the prices would drop $0.50 a gallon!

I really don't know if it would be economical in that quantity. Based on your 20 cent lower price, you're only saving $20.00 on each 100 gallons. I think it would take quite awhile to recover the cost of the 100 gallon tank, although I've got no idea how much a tank would cost. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I believe that the ag co-ops will essentially "give" you the tank. They will then keep it filled, or fill it when you call.

Larry,
I am sure there are environmental and safety issues to consider. But would it be worth the time involved? I store 30 gal of gas over the winter for the generator should I need it. In November I considered driving 8 miles to save a nickle/gallon saving me a grand total of $1.50. I filled up at the closest convenient station.
In your case you would save $20 per 100 gallons. Is this worth any extra time and inconvience you may encounter? Will you have to buy a pump? How much and what will the payback period be?
Of course this is all speculation on my part. You my find it very convenient to have the gas on hand and would even be willing to spend extra for that convenience.

I have a 200 gallon tank that I put in the bed of my pickup when we go on trips. The tank was $380. I have a pump that runs off of the battery in my truck. The pump was $200. I've got about 580 in the setup. They make 100 gallon tanks to do the same thing. I'm not sure what the price is on those.
