Will be on the road for some time and wanted to keep up on my TBN reading. Anyone have recommendations for a good laptop that I can take along? Here are some of my needs.
I do not play any games or music. I do like a 17-inch screen but can get by with 15 inch. I take many pictures on a sony camera that uses a floppy disk and down load to the computer. I will be hooking up to a New Hermes IM4 machine but that will not require more than Pentium III.
Most of my use will be for Internet, ebay, (buying \selling), TBN, email, stocks (buying /selling) and storing of files.
Most of the use will be in hotels with AC. Few times with battery. I would like very fast connectivity but realize that is dependent on the hotel. I use MSN. Weight is not a big concern
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try dell and see if you can get good price on a reconditioned model.
Have an uncle that bought one a few years back it's still kicking...
I use a laptop at work that is a compaq armada e500. Older machine Plll 500mghz with 128 ram for running various software SOME TAXING hardware control programs for commercial lighting controls and surfing like now and word proccessing. It's a good lil machine... but no cdr...Just remember about all you can upgrade on a laptop is ram, harddrive and cd or dvd drives...I would go for at least a 8oomghz or better and 128 (256 is better for recording cds) meg of ram and as say 10gig or so harddrive and a cdr(recordable cd rom...) If you fly any keep in mind you may have a tough time with a 17" going under the seat in front of you... on some of the smaller planes....

Be aware of the hotel's phone system. If they use a digital pbx it will fry your modem. More and more I've noticed hotel phones have data ports, and that means they are safe. One I stayed at had only certain rooms wired with analog phones, and they moved me after I asked. Some don't have any analog phones.

Some (more) are now offering broadband, too, so having a network card in your laptop would allow you to take advantage of that.

Thanks Hank,
Most of the hotels that I have stayed are wired for internet.
When is the large garage sale in your area? Jan or Feb?
