Had TC25D, now JD X310
According to the documentation for my TC25D, I have position control on my 3ph. Assuming this to be true, can I use it to control the cutting height of my 60" MMM instead of having to lower the deck completely to the ground and use the casters to control cutting height?

Mike, position control adjusts the position of the 3 pt hitch relative to the tractor; whereas, the casters maintain a constant height relative to the ground. That's the primary difference.

Mike, assuming your mmm is raised and lowered by your 3ph, the answer to your question is yes. I do this with my Kubota mmm. I mow 2 of my acres--my front lawn--at the 2 1/2 inch setting on my caster wheels. Another acre has some stumps and roots. Because I'm too lazy to adjust all 4 caster wheels up an inch or so, I sometimes just lift the deck up slightly off the ground with the 3ph lever and mow the entire acre in that "suspended' position. It seems to work fine. You can notice what number you are at on your postion control to return the deck to the same "suspended" height. I do the same with my brush cutter. I mow some areas at one postion and other areas at a higher postion.

Yes, you can use your mmm in any position you like. I think thats the idea of the float position lever along with the 3 pnt hitch utilizing the same effect. I do anyways with no problem. When im using my king kutter brush mower on the 3pnt i float it for different highths over rocks and other high spots

Thanks glennmac and larry, that's what I thought but the guy that delivered the tractor said the mower always had to be down on all four casters. Thought it was kinda funny, particularly since the decal for the 3ph indicated a float position and it had a stop to ensure you could reposition the lever to the same spot.

Mike,

To echo what the others have said, my dealer (and I think the operating manual) said to use the 3-point lever to control the cutting height of the mmm. Then adjust the deck wheels to just lightly touch the ground, maybe even float a little. That way the deck wheels will lift the deck over obstructions and uneven ground, but not carry the full weight of the deck.

You'll find that the deck and wheels don't take such a pounding, especially if the ground is a little rough.

Mike, I don't want to sound like a dictionary here, but "float" means the 3 pt is allowed to freely move up and down. If you put your control in this position, your mower will set down on it's wheels and "float" whenever the ground level changes. The same is true for a FEL joystick. When you put it in "float" the bucket will drop to the ground, but only have the downpressure of its own weight (no hydraulic down pressure).
