As many of you are probly like me love shows on TLC and Discovery, and A&E. Well last year the wife and i got into the Colony (discovery channel i think). This season just started last week and second episode is this week.
Anyway to the point. The point of the show is to put these people in as close to a disaster like scenario as possible, where they have to fend for food collect and purify water and all the things that go with life. Anyway part of the junk that they left them is an old tractor with no tires. I think they end up using it to charge bateries and probably like last year create some sort of power inverter so that they can run 120volt things like power tools. This tractor was only breifly shown in the first show, but they show previews of it being started up. It looks a lot like a yanmar, maybe a 1401 or 1410 type tractor? Look rough, but is a small tractor thats atleast from the 80's and i think based on size its prolly a jap tractor. I think its deisel to cause in the first episode they show them scavenging and they take a gallon or two of fuel out of a big box truck which i would only guess to be deisel. Then they show previews of them making their own fuel with rotted flesh of animals in a tub ( one guy says that he remembers doing that growing up, is how they do it). The only thing i can think of is that a gas tractor will prolly not run on any fluid or stuff that rotting animals provide , but a deisel probably will from the liquified fat and oils that leach out of the animal, leading me again to think that is a deisel tractor. Watch for yourself this show is addictive!
