So what is it?

My wife has been after me for 6 weeks or so to get this animal. I finally spotted it on June 11th and snapped a picture of it. It has been eating various plants and or flowers out of her garden. She was concerned about our 20 month old daughter being out back because of this animal. She was also concerned about her two new kittens that she got for outdoor cats to take care of the chipmunks around the house.

I am assuming that it lived in the hole in the ground that you can see in the second after pic.

Oh, by the way it is probably 16" to 18" long plus the tail.

Re: Before And After

Spencer, That is an incredibly rare Rhishic monosicius. There is only one breeding pair known to be living. If they don't reproduce soon the species will be extinct. They are also federally protected and the fine and jail time for harming one is outrageous. Luckily, the one in your photo clearly died from natural causes. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Seriously, looks like a ground hog to me (at least that's what we called them).

Re: Before And After

I think you get an extra 6 weeks of winter just at your house for killing a Groundhog. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Before And After

Congra's You have got yourself a Ground hog , Woodchuck, Whisle Pig ,I hate to tell you if you have 1 you will have / do have more .... they will eat you out of a garden / flower bed as fast as bugs or deer .... Here in MA they are the highest carriers of rabies due to the fact they are a more likely to live after an attack by a rabied predator than any other prey animal.

Good luck and Good hunting

Re: Before And After

I think it was inappropriate to show all of those photos of a dead woodchuck, groundhog, or whatever anyone prefers to call it.

At the very least, if you just HAD to post a photo, one would have been enough and I think your TOPIC should have been more descriptive other than "Before and After". From looking at the first picture, I was waiting to see a remodel of your deck, instead, as I am eating my pop-tart, I see a dead animal. Thanks.

You know, if you would have just told us in your 1st post (with the living creature), that you shot it dead -- I think we would have believed you.
