Post Hole Digger for a NH45a

I need to build 2 fences: one is about 1,500 feet long boarding my property line on one side to keep the crazy neighbor from encroaching on my land and to make sure my dogs do not roam over to his property & the other is about 300 feet to keep my Great Danes in during the day. I’m thinking of a 4 foot 4 rail fence in the front with a 6 foot chain link in back (about half the distance would be a chain link fences.

What are the better (meaning easiest to maneuver, use,…) post hole diggers to fit my tractor?

Note that I have no rocks just a lot of pine and clay and the land is a rolling hill in VA. I did not want to clear a lot in building the fence but to get the tractor in position, this will require an 8 foot path probably.

For that many posts, I'd use a post driver.

For post hole diggers, they're almost all the same in terms of maneuverability since they share the same basic design.

I have a Leinbach phd and used a 9" auger for 4" x 4" posts. I put in about a dozen posts and digging, setting and tamping got old, quick.

Since you asked specifically about a PHD, that's what I'm going to try and describe. As MikePA said, almost all the 3PH PHDs are similar. I'd look for one at TSC or Northern Tools that sells for around $650 to $700. Be sure you get an auger with a long digging tip. In clay that tip will help pull the auger into the soil. Also, for your application, I'd think a 6" auger would be fine. A 9" will be okay, but you won't need a 12" unless you are setting gate posts with a big gate to support.
