I have been looking at the Bx series of tractors for a while now, I know you can get a post hole digger for them, what kind of one, how well do they work and how long are/is the augers?

Thanks
KC

There are several manufacturers that make augers. People have put them on the Bx seriesl, but the problem some folks run in to is that because the Bx is a sub compact that the 3PH won't lift the auger up far enough to use a very long one. Do a search on this forum and you'll find a number of threads describing workarounds. If you want to dig lots of deep holes, you might consider one of the somewhat taller compacts.

They work great. Just one thing - make sure you lift it out of the hole every so often to pull the dirt out. If you dig all the way down without doing that the weight of the dirt will prevent the 3PH from lifting the bit out of the hole /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif.

Try Vassar Farm Equipment. You can see their post hole diggers and other equipment in their on-line catalog. Great folks to deal with. They specialize in implements for smaller tractors. They offer a post hole auger that would work well with the BX or a 2210. I believe the auger depth for the estate size is 32" and comes with either a 6", 9", or 12" diameter auger. The next size up, which still might work with the BX or 2210, would have an auger depth of 45" with the same diameter auger. Call first and let them know what model you have. They will sell direct to you and ship to your door.

Here's a pic of the estate post hole digger. I'm contemplating one for my 2210.

Pete, how long is the auger, and how much did it cost (If I can ask)?

Hello KC, I bought a full sized Speeco unit and had the boom modified to be able to lift higher. There are three holes through the boom and the highest setting did not raise it up high enough, I had another piece welded on to lift even further. Now I am able to drill full depth, 42" or so and it does not drag on the ground.

KC,

The depth is 32" for the estate auger and 45" for the full-size auger. I think the full-size unit would have to be modified unless you want to drag a trench to the work site.

I expect the estate unit will break the $400 cost level so I am budgeting accordingly. I'm not done shopping either. Your best bet is to call Vassar directly for a quote and lift height specs.

KC,

You can click on the links in my first message if you overlooked the link to their website and catalog.
