I borrowed my neighbors post hole diggers and broke it doesn't that figure. The problem I am having is it still spins when it's engaged, but it gets hung up easily now and makes a noise like its stripped or something. By the looks of it, it is an older attachment and Green is the manufacture. I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions before took it apart to see what is wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, if you are using a slipclutch PTO, it could be an adjustment thing.
If your drive line was protected by a shear bolt, probably somebody replaced the shear bolt with a grade 8 or something, and, as a result, the transmission acted as a shear bolt.

I'd guess a few teeth are busted on a gear, or maybe a scrunched bearing.

Sounds like a broken shear bolt to me, if you're lucky. On mine the shear bolt is located just in front of the gearbox and goes through the pto shaft and the input shaft of the gearbox. To replace it, drive the bolt out with something smaller than the bolt diameter and replace with a grade 2 bolt of the same diameter. Others may suggest a different grade.

I too, would suspect a shear pin has sheared and dragging--Ken Sweet

If you are lucky it is the slip clutch or the shear pin, but most likely it sounds like you have stripped the gearbox. Green Manufacture co. is located in Ohio and we do have an open account with them if you figure out for sure what is wrong. Just let us konw the model number and part number and we could possibly help you out in finding the parts.

Unfortunatly it was not a shear pin and it is the main gear. I called Greene MF and they faxed me the parts diagram but now I cant reach them to order the gear.

Well Mike, I'm sorry to hear that and wish you luck on the repair.

I would change out that shear bolt in addition to the gear repair. It should have gone long before the gear let go. I managed to shear 3 the other day in my rock hard clay with the auger all the way in the ground. I was able to rock the auger back and forth each time enough to get it unstuck with no damage. Man that clay is hard when it's bone dry! We got about 1 1/2" of rain yesterday so they may go a little smoother this weekend.
