I have a feeling that I know the answer to the below question but just want to verify it.
I am looking at putting some concrete peirs in for a deck foundation as well as possibly for a small pole shed for my tractor and attachments storage. I would like to install them below the frost line so the frost has less of a tendency to want to push them up. Around here that depth is anywhere 6-8 feet depending on the winter. I know nothing about post hole diggers but It seems that most post hole diggers only go to around 3 feet depth. Can an extention be used to get deeper holes.
The tractor that would be used is a L2501 with 19 hp at the pto.

Yes, an extension can be used. When using a two person, hand-held phd the process is simple but a handful. When using a three point hitch type the process is slightly less grueling because the lift height of the three point requires that you add the extension after exhausting the digging depth of the main auger by disconnecting the auger, adding the extension and then reconnecting to the gearbox. The way to go is with a hydraulic driven loader mount phd which gives you the lift height you need to add auger extensions without much fuss.

6-8’?!? Yikes! I feel for you. If you’ve got a number of holes to do, perhaps it’d be best to contract out the work? I’d hate to diddle with the extensions especially when uncoupling, coupling, etc,.. all the while you hope it doesn’t get stuck permanently in the hole.

I just talked to a local contractor i know and he has a post hole auger for his skid steer but for what I want to do, he suggested to use screw piles. They can be sunk well below the frost line and are ready to use instantly and with the price of concrete around this area,($250 per yard plus $275 delivery to my place) they would be cheaper. He also has the attachment to installs them. Looks like I'll be going this route. Thanks for the input guys.

If you have 8 foot frost depth - then the holes should be ten feet deep. At your cost for concrete + delivery - the screw piles could be made of gold and probably still be cheaper. I had to Google, Denare Beach, to locate you up there in Saskatchewan. Beautiful country........
