I have been having some delusional thoughts about building a post pounder. It would be interesting. One of the things I realize is that the hydraulic return from the lifter cylinder , on the way down , wants an unobstructed path to the sump. The best way is through the Transmission fill plug.

I looked at it I assume it is metric looks like 30mm but the thread pitch is wierd for 30mm Someplace around 10 tpi which translates to 2.5 kinda
The published pitch is 3.5
Does anyone know what the thread is on that plug TC34DA 2007

The best/easiest way is to buy a new fill cap from NH, then add a steel or brass hose-barbed fitting into it.

Thats a thought it's plastic though not my favorite material.
They probably want $100 for it. I will keep it mind .

SBA398430560 is the part number. Should be under $10. Or you can return to the 3PT valve/ remote valve stack end cover where the backhoe return oil is dumped.

Thanks.
I asked Ray last Sat if you were around.

Anymore on the compacts, Walt is "The Man" . It keeps me jumping keeping up on the T4000-T7000's and hay tools. Plus all the older stuff. Of course, we are all cross-trained in varying degrees.

I have two remotes so the end cover is out there a ways. Does the current cover have a tapped hole for a fitting or does it get swapped out when a backhoe is installed?

parts list just calls for an elbow so there must be a tapped hole in the cover plate with a plug in it. As you said this would be a better place. no guessing on the thread either 3/8 MPT.

I'm not so sure the backhoe return will have sufficient flow to not restrict the downstroke of the post pounder. A backhoe will have a steady outflow no greater than the inflow. With a pounder, you slowly build up pressure raising and stretching a big spring. When the release is tripped, it's one big WHOOSH and there is high flow. You want the least amount of backpressure available. My dealer suggested a 1" hose plumbed into the fill port. He sells 6 or 8 post pounders each year and that's his suggestion. I'd hate for you to spend the time and money to do the backhoe return and find it unsatisfactory.

Of course, you could build a collector tank to take the high flow fluid and then drain it slowly back to the reservoir during the next upstroke. I don't know anyone who has done this, but it sure seems possible in theory, but probably not very practical.

Good point about the backhoe connection. I know it wants to go back fast.
I think I will fool around with some numbers and see what the return fllow rate wants to be.
It still has to go through the 4 way on the pounder it self so it appears that that valve wants to be a very high flow.
I am not sure I will even get to this thing. It is all about keeping the deer out of the vegtable garden.

I have a Kubota, but I found pcv plumbing fittings screw right in. I built a long screw in, then put the return hose into the longer pipe.
