Where do I begin.....
This is a PARTS and REPAIRS question about a LAWN and GARDEN tractor.

I've got a 1992 Deere 265 Hydro (with Kawasaki 1 cyl. 18 HP engine) It's getting hard to start, and on occasion, will backfire when starting. All the classic symtoms of a bad spark plug. I can't imagine why. It's the original plug.

The owners manual is about worthless. No mention of plug type. I don't have the parts manual for it. Normally, I have them for everything, but I've never had the need on this mower.

So. My question is, what # plug do I need? It's got a NGK plug in it now, but the # is rubbed off so bad I can't read it anymore. (I need # and brand) I'll stop off at a small engine shop on the way home to see if they have what I need. Deere dealer is off the beaten path for todays trip.

Farmwithjunk,

JDparts.com lists the following number for your 265: M802138 which JD crosses to an NGK BPR5ES. I have a 320 which is a big brother to your 265 and it is a mowing machine.

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna grab that plug on the trip home today. I have a 260, (manual shift) and the 265 (hydrostat) They were both trade-ins at my favorite Deere dealer. I got them with about 5 years use already on them. I mow a BUNCH of lawn with them. Never so much as a whimper from EITHER. I MUCH prefer the hydrostat. My wife actually likes the manual shift. That works out great. I've got a snow blade that will fit either, but haven't ever used it. Just the mower decks. (Both have the 48" deck, which was one of three choices on the 260/265. The 48" being the better of the three picks)

I tried to kick it in on the truck/trailer/tractor/lunch/dinner deal yesterday but had no serious takers. I guess I need to throw in some more booty!

How much land do ya have down there?? (now it gets personal /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Actually I am currently getting my feet wet looking for realestate for a possible retirement location with about 10 acres or more depending. Somewhere between PA,OH, WV or KY. When I retire I want to live somewhere that the cost of living wont be so high /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I've got "the old place" where we lived at for the last 27 years. It's just under 88 acres. We just bought and moved to a 45 acre place with a much smaller, more efficient home. The old place is getting kinda "civilized". Housing developments packing in around it from every direction. I'm going to keep it in hay until someone starts throwing coins at me. If and when it sells, I'm going after more acrage near our new home.

SUPPOSEDLY, the cost of living is as cheap in this immediate area as anywhere in the U.S. A quick walk through Krogers, or a look at my gas and electric bill might make me tend to doubt that.

There isn't any part of life in 2005 that brings the word "CHEAP" to my mind. (Although, my son says I'M cheap, but that's another story altogether)

Here's the "lawn fleet". 260 on the right, 265 on the left.
