I had an M nearly 50 years ago. There was no auxiliary tank to start it on gasoline and switch it over to a cheaper fuel. I thought it was designed for gas.

That's a beautiful machine. Classic JD green is so much deeper than the modern green.

Went to a classic car show with my Daughter, Granddaughter, and S-I-L when the Granddaughter was too young to know not to touch so I policed her proper. Caught some evil looks from the S-I-L so I finally had a discussion with him about why you shouldn't allow children to run amuck at a car show.

^^^ Thank you... coming from the side of the classic car circuit since my teens...

I would take my young nieces and get praise for how well behaved they were... look but don't touch.

One of the exhibitors had an original 427 Cobra and asked my 8 year old niece if she wanted to sit inside so I could take my picture... she told the owner she was not allowed to touch any show cars... I said if you are invited it is OK... boy was she beaming.

The M sure has a throaty sound with that Chrome Straight Pipe... you can hear it from across the field.

I like my Jubilee for it's refined road manors and quiet and smooth operation...

The Farm All Cub is also very quiet but not much on the power side when towing the old wagon up the inclined dirt road.

I've been tempted to enter the 1953 Ford in a classic car show... just for kicks and to give my friends something to talk about... it is that well done.

The only tractor we crank start is the Cub... and it starts real easy.

I do very much like the classic JD Green... with yellow accents.

Unfortunately, kids that have been raised to respect other people's property really get noticed.

It does reflect well on their parents and elders in the family, and the effort that was put into raising them.

I've been thinking about that all fuel engine and I seem to remember reading somewhere that even though the all fuel was in the plans for the M, no M's were actually produced with them. I'm old and that memory could be wrong. If anyone here ever had an M with an all fuel engine, I'd like to hear/read about it.

One odd thing about the M is that the engine and transmission are two inches off-center to the left. I never found a reason for it. The Farmall Cultivision tractors (A, Super A, 100, 130, 140) were offset by quite a bit so the operator had a good view of the cultivating bars. But two inches? I once had an M with mid-body cultivating bars (after market). The only way to get into the seat was clamber up the rear tires and leap into the seat. I told my intern (female) that this was not a tractor to drive wearing a short skirt.

Still need to climb over to get in and out of the seat... no easy way about it.

Once seated it is fine... just getting in and out.

It's a sweetheart for sure... just wish my nephew was not so hung up on the straight stainless exhaust stack... it really is loud to the point of annoying.... but it makes for grand entrance.

One of the things I like about old tractors... especially crank ones is they can sit for half a year or more and start right up... even the battery start seem to be very easy on the battery...

Loud is fun when you are young....... later, some of us :)rolleyes:) start to realize what we've done to our hearing ! I heard not that long ago - Brian Johnson said he had hearing loss from playing with loud cars, not AC/DC !

Funny how the olde iron starts up...... esp. when I think of how many people today can't park a car at the airport for 2 weeks, w/o it going dead....
