Hi everyone, i have a post on power trac website for selling a 1430 snow thrower. i was contacted by someone saying they wanted to buy it. i told him the price and after a couple of emails he said he would send a check and asked for my cell phone to ask some questions about it and mailing address to send the check. after giving it to him the next email made me suspicious because he was going to send me a check for the amount agreed upon plus the amount for the people picking it up plus money for me to go to send my check deposit confirmation slip. once all of this was put into my account he wanted me to then pay the people picking it up. after this email. i said no. send a certified check and you pay the people when they deliver it to you. so far i haven't heard anything back from him and i truly believe this was a scam to find out what my bank deposit # plus take my money.plus his check probably would have been bad and i would have had to pay the bank back. he does have my cell phone # and address so i am concerned about that. i called christie down at PT and asked her if she knew if this person owned either a 1430 or 2430 and she said she didn't know about all of the sales especially if this person had bought it from some one else. It sucks thinking all you are doing is trying to sell something and the scam artists are trolling websites like PT's thinking they can scam you out of money plus potentially the equipment. thanks

That's why you have a junk email account and a google phone number to give out and maybe even a PO Box. Once certified check arrives for payment, then an address to pick up. Sad to have to go through all this, but way to may bad individuals out there! If they work as hard at a real job, they be very well off!

If they're sending you more than your asking price, it's a scam 99.9999999% of the time.

Watch out for certified checks also, there is a scam involving those.. Just say no, it is not worth the mess.

It doesn't matter what or were you are trying to sell something if it's an electronic listing the scammers will find it.
Just have to weed the scum bags out. If they can't show in person most likely not the buyer you want.
That said I have purchased sight unseen a couple of times. Haven't been burnt yet.

Sounds like the typical scam.

Learn what COD means!

but then there is also a COD scam whereby the seller greets U with a gun and takes the cash.
(to offset that one U meet in the police parking lot)

Canada makes it nearly impossible for an ordinary citizen to legally carry a handgun.
Only criminals (and RCMP) carry handguns in Canada, and criminals do not give a shxt about legality.

In the USA, I'll meet anywhere reasonable,.... in broad daylight.
I have a concealed carry permit......and I DO carry concealed!

I definitely would not accept cashier's/bank checks or money orders. Weeks later, the bank can say "Sorry, it was no good so we are taking the money from your account." That is true even if you ask the bank to verify it ahead of time. Personally, I use PayPal or cash.

I'm sure they don't have the slightest idea of what the equipment is anyway. Ask a few questions and that usually becomes clear.

You can't even compare CASH with PAYPAL. I am not going to give PAYPAL or anyone else a percentage of my sale. FINE, if they helped sell it. Legit people usually don't have a problem completing a deal. Like people who can't somehow get the money to buy something, because they don't have any! lol
