Power Shift Problem - YM 226 D

My trusty 226 has problems and I need some help. I changed the transmission oil a couple of months ago - cleaned filter in rear and changed spin on filter. Everything was golden until about two weeks later I started having problems shifting into 3rd - was slow to engage - like slipping the clutch. Then about two weeks later it would not go into 3rd - put lever on 3 and nothing - put back into 2 or 1 and no problems. Was pushing up a brush pile the other day and heard a squealing sound from the transmission area and the engine stopped. Pressed the clutch and it started up fine, bucket worked fine but when I let out on clutch the engine choked down. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and started it up - everything worked fine (still no 3rd) - ran for about 15 minutes and the squeal came back and engine stopped. Waited about 30 minutes and started up - drove to barn. I split the tractor thinking it may be the clutch but that all looks good - thinking now the squealing sound may have come from the Power Shift valve. Any direction would be appreciated.

My guess too. Start pulling parts off top of transmission until you find the problem.

This one bothers me. Wish I was local to help. Does it still have oil? What does the oil look like? If it is a mechanical problem, how comfortable are you with hydraulics and gearboxes? Anyone can fix anything and do a fine the very first time with a manual and some patience. Parts are available for most US models. If you plan on doing any work yourself you will probably want to get both the original shop manual and also the parts manual. Powershift transmissions aren't all that difficult to understand if you are comfortable with gearboxes in the first place. But there are enough unique parts in there to be confusing without the manuals.
My first advice would be to drain the oil and inspect that rear cleanable filter carefully. If you find anything, save it, take pictures, and next get hold of the manuals.

I have a 226d manual and will list from trouble shooting section. Symptom: Tractor does not move when power shift lever in a certain speed position. 1. Main relief valve pressure (system pressure) is too high. 2. Main relief valve stuck or its pilot hole plugged, or wrong spring or shims installed. 3. Check main relief valve, springs and adjusting shims. Good luck.
